Aftercare & Maintenance of Your Hair Extensions
Correct aftercare and maintenance is essential to maintain the quality of your hair extensions and to help prolong their life.
It is important to not only follow the correct advice but also use the correct and recommended products. Failure to follow correct aftercare could cause damage to the hair extensions and prevent you from getting the most time and effectiveness from your fitting or adjustment.
All initial fittings and subsequent adjustments are done so on the assumption that the client will follow these aftercare guidelines.
The salon cannot be held responsible for clients not adhering to these instructions and as a result, requiring more frequent adjustments or that the quality of their own hair or hair extensions and their longevity being adversely affected. This remains entirely the responsibility of the client.
Basic Hair Care Kit That You Will Need
- Sulphate free shampoo
- Sulphate free conditioner
- Argan oil
- Tangle teezer
Washing the hair
- Before washing the hair detangle the hair using your tangle teezer
- Always wash hair in an upright position using the sulphate free shampoo. Massage into the scalp and gently over the areas with extensions ensuring you don’t massage too vigorously or twist the hair.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water then repeat.
- Squeeze excess water from the hair then apply sulphate free conditioner.
- Ensure conditioner is only applied to the mid lengths and ends of the hair avoiding the root area where exstentions are attached.
- Rinse out conditioner thoroughly again with lukewarm water .
- After washing avoid rolling or rubbing the hair with towel instead gently squeeze excess water from hair and pat dry with towel.
- Once towel dried apply Argan oil through mid lengths and ends of the hair then gently brush ends to root with tangle teezer .
- Always dry hair in an upright position use low to medium heat setting on your dryer and dry hair thoroughly ensuring you dry the bonds or weft first.
Bedtime and Hot Weather
Before going to bed brush hair with tangle teezer plait your hair or put into a loose ponytail at the nape of your neck to avoid matting when asleep then brush hair again in the morning. This same advice should be followed where you are in hot or humid conditions.
Swimming
Hair extensions are not recommended for use in chlorinated water, salt water or hard water with high mineral content.
Holiday
- Use recommended sunscreen products for your hair.
- Avoid getting your hair wet with chlorine or salt water if you are going to water parks loosely plait your hair.
- If your hair gets wet rinse thoroughly in shower then apply oil or leave in conditioner and brush with tangle teezer
- Do not let chlorine or salt water dry into your hair under the sun .
Maintenance
Tapes
- Avoid direct heat to the top of your tapes
- Use lukewarm water when washing
- Use low heat setting on dryer
- Avoid contact with hot tools such as straighteners and tongs on the top of tapes
- Brush gently twice daly in between all tapes to avoid matting.
- Do not wear tied up in tight hairstyles.
Recommended Adjustments

Hair that grows quickly or where a heavier weight and volume of extensions has been fitted may require more frequent adjustment.
Where correct care and maintenance has been followed, the salon will guarantee all fittings for up to the FIRST 4 WEEKS ONLY.
Weaves
- Gently Wash in between each row of weave
- When the hair is dry brush in between each row of the weave twice daily using tangle teezer to avoid matting
- Avoid wearing tight hairstyles more than twice per week

Where correct care and maintenance has been followed, the salon will guarantee all fittings for up to the FIRST 4 WEEKS ONLY.
Ultra Tips/Tiny Tips
- Gently brush the hair twice daly to avoid matting
- Avoid wearing tight tied up hairstyles more then twice per week
- Once hair has been in for 2 or more months, then you must separate all strands in your hair once per week to prevent matting.
